What keratinase does for your process

Keratin-rich byproducts are hard to handle because they resist water, heat and ordinary proteases. Keratinase opens the dense keratin structure under controlled conditions, so the material softens, partly dissolves and converts into peptide-containing liquids or slurries.

The business case is usually one or more of these:

Hair, bristles and wool contain durable keratin fibers that complicate rendering, cleaning, extraction and recycling. Keratinase is added where size reduction and thermal conditioning alone do not give the conversion you need: pretreatment, hydrolysis, protein recovery and waste reduction.

Hide, horn and mixed keratin residues
